Unyogic practices

This article is about the legal feud between Baron Baptiste and his business partner, Rolf Gates and is another example of the fact that yoga is not invulnerable to the greed and viciousness of corporate practice. Yoga in the Western world is in its infancy by comparison to yoga in its Eastern home and it has rapidly turned into another limb of the fitness industry, yoga for better abs, for a better ass and for more $$$....

I am developing an online yoga studio myself, and find myself keenly aware of the danger of corporately motivated yoga...I am doing my project to make money, sure, I want to be able to sustain the life I want by selling yoga online; however, I endeavour and am dedicated to presenting yoga in its entirety as a lifestyle practice as well asana practice, as well as history and limbs of yoga that do not require movement, such as jnana yoga and karma yoga. I hope for myself and my project that I am able to balance asana practice with karma yoga and present the practice as a whole, and provide service in the process.

Thanks for posting this article Jenn C.
I have been doing yoga since the age of 12 and teaching it for 14 years. (way before it was fashionable to wear the mats under one's arm.)
I guess none of us is free from greed, spiritual greed is the most insinuous of all as it is disguised in noble clothing. It's good to stay tune with our deepest motivation.
I make a living teaching yoga, making people remember how good it feels to be at peace within.
The tribulations of power struggles and politics is certainly part of our culture and I feel we can bring the awareness to the heart integrating our ability to take care of our needs for survival and power in a positive way. I say cooperation is way more powerful than competition!

Hi Marise - welcome to the tribe! I've been doing yoga since I was 16 (and I'm 31 now), to relieve and address my arthritis...but I've only really developed a regular practice in the last year. Yoga is the only form of 'exercise' I've always come back to and I know it's because it addresses so much more than just the body. I got an OM tattoo over my heart when I was 19, before OM appeared on clothing everywhere and yoga wear became fashion too....

your words regarding tuning into our deepest motivation struck a resonant chord in me, thank you. I've learned SO much in the last year through planning and preparing this site. I agree to that co-operation goes a lot further than competition and one of the aims of my online studio is to create an interactive yoga community where our members can directly contact the instructors (and instructors can interact too) with questions etc...

we are also looking for instructors to film for the site, so if you are interested please let me know....

Thank you! It's a new process for me this tribe, still figuring out how to use it constructively. It's been a little time consuming, I like to be with people and do things. This process is teaching me how to connect with people in a new way...
I am interested for sure and would love to meet you sometimes.
Classes are starting for me this week and the next but after that I will be more settled.
